This Week on Sound Medicine

INDIANAPOLIS — This weekend, Aug. 29 and 30, Sound Medicine host Barbara Lewis and her guests will discuss heat stroke, healthcare reform and depression.

William Roberts, M.D., M.S., a professor of family medicine and community health at the University of Minnesota Medical School and a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, will explain new guidelines on how to prevent heat stroke in high school athletes.

Aaron Carroll, M.D., M.S., associate professor of pediatrics and director for the Center of Health Policy and Professionalism Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine, will discuss the recent controversy involving a side deal between President Obama and the pharmaceutical industry in relation to healthcare reform.

Larry Cripe, M.D., associate professor of medicine and an oncologist at the IU Simon Cancer Center, will present his view that end-of-life discussions are a crucial part of any health reform package.

Bryce Mackie, will discuss his struggle with depression and his diagnosis of bipolar 1. Mackie is known for his documentary, Eternal High, about his ups and downs with depression and suicidal thoughts.

In this week’s Sound Medicine “Checkup,” Jeremy Shere, Ph.D., will explore non-head hair transplants.
