Fibromyalgia Patients Sought For Exercise Research Study
INDIANAPOLIS — Researchers at Indiana University want to know if doing exercises on a vibrating platform can improve physical function and decrease fibromyalgia pain.
The IUPUI Department of Physical Education and the IU School of Medicine Division of Rheumatology seek participants for this 8-week study. Females between the ages of 18 and 65 years with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia are needed to exercise twice weekly on a platform that produces low-intensity vibrations. Each session will last approximately 30 minutes and will be performed at the participant’s home with the guidance of a trained exercise science student.
Exercise and physical activity are frequently recommended in the overall treatment for fibromyalgia. Research indicates that vibration training provides improvements in muscle strength, flexibility, balance control, and quality of life, and may lessen exercise-related pain.
