This Week on Sound Medicine

INDIANAPOLIS — This weekend, Oct. 17 and 18, Sound Medicine host Barbara Lewis and guests will discuss cancer research, the correlation of using marijuana and testicular cancer, and what effect thoughts of money have on your health.

The line-up:

James Ford, M.D., associate professor of medicine, genetics and pediatrics at the Stanford School of Medicine, will discuss how PARP (Poly ADP-ribose polymerase) inhibitors destroy cancer tumors and how the research could benefit breast cancer patients.

Stephen Schwartz, Ph.D., MPH, an epidemiologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and professor of epidemiology at the University of Washington School of Public Health, will discuss his current study that looks at links between marijuana use and testicular cancer.

2009 Nobel Prize winner Elizabeth Blackburn, Ph.D., will discuss her work with telomeres and the role they play in the aging process.

Sound Medicine reporter Colleen Iudice will profile a man who considers his HIV-positive status a chronic condition more than a deadly disease.

Kathleen Vohs, associate professor of marketing at the Carlson School of Management, will explain her study of how thinking about money affects how we experience pain and social rejection.

In this week’s Sound Medicine “Checkup,” Jeremy Shere, Ph.D., will explore women with sperm allergies.

Sound Medicine would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our newest broadcast partner-- WQUB 90.3 FM in Quincy, Ill. Welcome aboard!
